Woolworths has upgraded its Everyday Rewards app, enabling customers to opt-out of paper receipts upon checking out.
Shoppers can update their preferences through the app, allowing for them not to receive printed receipts anymore when they scan their Everyday Rewards card in-store.
The new feature removes the need to select “yes” or “no” for receipts at the point of sale, which speeds up the checkout process and reduces contact with the payment terminal.
For 14 months, e-receipts are stored in the app after every shop.
WooliesX, in a post on LinkedIn, said the feature was already “saving kilometres of paper every week.”
The company wrote, “Minimising contact with the checkout terminal and going paperless is a little thing that’s all about helping our customers shop quickly and safely and be COVID-safe this Christmas.”
The update builds on Woolworths’ initiatives to enable customers to transact paperless or without plastic cards.
Launched in May, the Woolworths Rewards App allows for its loyalty scheme members to earn points. Through using the app, they can also check their point balance, as well as get discounts at Woolworths supermarkets, Big W, and BWS.
The app has a digital card for in-store scanning.
